Financial Charting and Strategy Testing

My current personal projects are to test stock trading strategies. I have developed an advanced financial charting package and am currently in the process of evaluating several trading strategies. Some signals and indicators I am evaluating are moving averages, MACD, RSI, Parabolic SARs, trends, volatility and lines of regression.

Automated Mammography

The majority of my research in graduate school was on machine learning techniques and how they could be applied to different areas. My thesis research was on detecting breast cancer using trained neural networks to identify cancerous in windowed subsections mammograms. The mamogram images were decomposed using wavelets in order to produce a larger training dataset and scale-free statistical moments were used as training features. The work was done completely in Matlab and the performance of several different neural network algorithms was compared.

Natural Language Processing

As an undergraduate, I researched the area of automated question answering systems, specifically using vector space models. I still work on a specific sub-problem of this field, that of word sense disambiguation (WSD), or how do we train a computer to distinguish between homonyms. For example: "The robber ran out of the bank", and "I pulled the canoe up on the bank of the river". I experimented using the Lesk algorithm with varying window sizes, and depths of recursion using Wordnet as a Lexicon.

National Parks

A personal goal of mine is to visit every United States National Park. I use Google maps to keep track of where I've been and where I'm going.
